Having recently moved home and new to the area I thought I would join with others to delve into the DNA of this area (West Moors, Dorset). I have previously researched my own family history and also my father's service in WW2, a project which has been in suspension for a year but interestingly has connections to this area through 43rd Wessex Division and in particular 4th and 5th Dorsets and 7th Hampshires infantry. My own attempt at a house history should have had a short life as it was only built in 1952, but led me back to slave owning compensation on one hand and an oil trader and MP in 18th century (lamp oil in this case not motor oil). as a starting project in West Moors I am tracing the fallen of WW2 in West Moors, not necessarily a straightforward activity. I will present more on this in my next post.
