A few of my posts I have quoted from the "Doomsday Book" and I was going to try to explain what it is and how to use it but failed miserably ! Then I found a great article from the National Archives that explains it a million times better than me. Even if you do not use it, it is worth learning about it. DoomsdayBook

I was shocked when I had a conversation with a young relative(15) about her history classes at school. She retorted that her main project was to identify famous "figures " of our past who were raciest. She rolled out so many names to me, I lost count, but Churchill's name stuck in my throat, it seemed all she could tell me about him was that he was a raciest and nothing else, we all know Churchill had his faults and was a man of his time and many of his views about Colonialism and class we would not agree with today, myself included, However there seemed to be no balance in what she is being taught, no mention of his patriotism, his love of our country and his Call of Duty during our nations darkest hour. I fear history our schools has become very political and tends to venture too far into the "woke" agender. History is history good or bad you cannot cancel it, but it is all of our duty to teach it without bias.

I want to make this blog very much user led, so if you have any suggestions on what you would like to focus on, please let me know. We have two experienced researches on here with Julie and Kevin, and I am always willing to help give advice on Local history research if needed, so please ask we are all here to learn from each other. If anyone would like to write an article for the blog, please let me know, and I shall publish it. Kind regards all Tony

churchyard of St Greg's Marnhull(1698) Here under this stone Lie Ruth and old John, Who smoked all his life, and so did his wife. And now there's no doubt but their pipes are both out. But it said without joke, that life is but a smoke, Tho you live to fourscore, Tis a whiff and no more. St Martin's Lillington (situated on the floor at the entrance of the aisle that surprisingly belong to the Cole family) Reader, you have within this grave, a Cole raked up in dust, His courteous fate saw it was late And that to bed he must: So all was swept up to be kept, Alive until the day. The trump should blow it up and show The Cole but sleeping lay. Then do not doubt, the COLES not out, Tho it in ashes lies. The little spark, now in the dark, Will like the phoenix rise.
